Fluid Flow Rates: IV1000 STAT I.V. SET
Fluid flow rates (per minute and per hour) are provided for the IV1000 when suspended at various heights, with and without the addition of extension sets and various I.V. catheters

Test Conditions:  The following fluid flow rates were determined with production run products. The IV-1000 sets tested were from Lot #01J8422; the TS-3002 from Lot #12H2965; the ET-3002 from Lot #06J1593; the ET-06L from Lot #11H2747; the Abbott, Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, IL 60064, Extension Set 7-SL (Order No. 4438) from Lot #12-242-FT; the Argyle, Medicut 12 ga. X 5 1/2" IV catheter from Lot #434537; and, the Cook, Cook Critical Care, P. O. Box 489, Bloomington, IN 47402, 9.0 Fr. X 5 1/4" IV catheter (Order No. CVSSN) from Lot #7375.37827. Tests were conducted with the IV apparatus attached to four (4), 5 liter Travenol collapsible fluid containers filled (and replenished as needed) with water. All heights were measured form the bottom of the lowest fluid container to the tip of the IV set, extension set or IV catheter. The fluid containers were suspended on an International WIN, Ltd. HG-7001 GYRO Fluid Hanger. When tests were conducted at 50 inches (4 feet, 2 inches) 2 fluid containers were on the low hooks and 2 on the higher hooks. Tests at 96 inches (8 feet) were conducted with all 4 fluid containers on the higher hooks. The fluid containers were interconnected with TS2001 Transfer Sets. All paired tests were conducted with a stop watch for 2 minutes. If the flow results for the system under test varied more than 5 ml they were repeated.

In addition, the number of drops per milliliter were determined in production IV-1000 STAT IV Sets, Lot #01J8422. Tests were conducted at 50 Inches (4 feet, 2 inches) and at 96 Inches (8 feet). Paired tests with 3 production sets were made. The number of drops were counted for 10 ml of fluid flow. Distances and test conditions were the same as for the foregoing tests.

Fluid Flow Rates: IV250 RAPID INFUSION SET

Fluid flow rates (per minute and per hour) are provided for the IV250 when suspended at two heights, with and without the addition of an I.V. catheter.

Test Conditions:  The following fluid flow rates were determined with a production run IV250, Lot # 136047 and an Abbott, Abbocath – T, 14G X 5 1/2” Teflon I.V. Catheter, Order No. 4535-84.  Tests were conducted with the I.V250 attached to a single 5 liter flexible container of Abbott Normosol – R fluids.  The quantity of fluids in the suspended container was depleted as the tests were conducted.  Tests with the fluids suspended at 50” were done first.  All tests were conducted with a stop watch for 2 minutes.  Date:  4/12/2005.
